For this project, we were proposed to make a sculpture out of metal with MIG welding. I chose to make my sculpture purely abstract consisting of squares, circles, triangles, and metal rodding. I then used the plasma cutter to create the circular shapes and triangle. Using the bandsaw, I cut the “pie slices” in the circles. I smoothed all my pieces with the grinder. We traveled to Eclipse Powder Coating company to choose the color I wanted for my piece; I chose light blue. I had to spray down my piece to make sure that it was clean to bring into the oven to get heated. This baking process helps it be the correct temperature for me to start spraying the powder coating on. After coating the project, it gets put back into the oven for fifteen minutes to create a chemical reaction that seals the paint on the project.
