I chose to focus on the environment and sustainable sculpture. I was inspired by the technique of paper quilling, which is based off of tight paper coiling and morphing of the shapes to create compositions. I emulated this technique on a larger scale using magazines. Cutting each magazine into thirds using the bandsaw, I was able to manipulate each piece to create my abstract sculpture. The border pieces depict environmental images of greenery, ocean life, and other natural items. This was to tie back to my theme of the environment in a literal sense. The magazine’s intent was to keep the piece colorful and to repurpose materials. This is a freeform composition of abstract coils. This piece was admitted into the 2020 "Our House is on Fire" virtual exhibition through UWEC's Foster Gallery.
